Hailey Van Lith's 16-points helps Sky secure Mohegan Sun Arena road win

Chicago Sky star Angel Reese became the second youngest player in WNBA history to record a triple — 11 points, 13, rebounds and 11 assists — in Chicago Sky's (3-7) win against Connecticut Sun (2-8) 78-66 at Mohegan Sun Arena.

Reese, 23, is a teammate of Australian Opals forward Rebecca Allen, who was playing against her former club. Caitlin Clark is the youngest player in WNBA history to notch a triple double.

Allen had a tough ball game. She went 0-from-8 in 18 minutes as a starter. She grabbed three boards, had an assist, a block and steal but was -6 in the 12-point win.

What Happened

The Chicago Sky overcame a slow start to claim a crucial 78-66 road win against the struggling Connecticut Sun. After trailing 16-14 in the first quarter, the Sky found their rhythm in the second period, outscoring the Sun 24-20 to take a 38-36 halftime lead.

Chicago maintained their momentum after the break, winning the third quarter 21-18 to extend their advantage to 59-54 heading into the final period. The Sky's defense clamped down in the fourth quarter, holding Connecticut to just 12 points while adding 19 of their own to secure the comfortable 12-point victory.

Hailey Van Lith provided a massive spark off the bench for Chicago, scoring 16 points on an efficient 6-from-8 shooting in just 24 minutes. Her plus-minus rating of +23 was a game-high, highlighting her substantial impact whenever she was on the court. The Sky's bench outscored Connecticut's reserves 36-2, proving to be the decisive factor in the contest.

Angel Reese continued her impressive rookie campaign with 11 points and 13 rebounds, while adding 11 assists to record a triple-double. Her seven free throws without a miss showcased her ability to get to the line and convert. Kia Nurse and Ariel Atkins each contributed 11 and 10 points respectively to provide balanced scoring for Chicago.

For Connecticut, Marina Mabrey led all scorers with 22 points, including five three-pointers, but her six turnovers proved costly. Veteran Tina Charles added 19 points and six rebounds, while rookie Jacy Sheldon contributed 12 points on efficient 4-from-5 shooting.

The Sky's superior efficiency made the difference, as they shot 42.9 per cent from the field compared to the Sun's 39.1 per cent. Chicago also dominated from the free-throw line, converting 17-from-18 attempts (94.4 per cent) while Connecticut struggled at 8-from-12 (66.7 per cent). This victory improved Chicago's record to 3-7, while Connecticut fell to 2-8, remaining at the bottom of the WNBA standings.
