Big re-signings and even bigger departures headline a busy free agency period for season 2026-27

The Sydney Flames have established themselves as arguably the clear winners of the WNBL offseason after several big-name additions during a busy free agency period in preparation for season 2026-27.

Sydney have completely retooled for their first full season under coach Renae Garlepp, adding stars such as Alex Wilson and Jaz Shelley as well as college star Charlise Dunn, putting them in a perfect position to rise up the ladder after a disappointing WNBL26 season, which saw the departure of coach Guy Molloy.

One of the busiest free agency periods in league history also saw the return of defending MVP Isobel Borlase to the Bendigo Spirit as the 21-year-old will look to build on her dominant first year with the Victorian side and on the back of a rookie WNBA season with the Atlanta Dream.

On the other hand, teams such as the Southside Melbourne Flyers have been left with many gaps to fill in their roster under new coach Sam Mackinnon, following the departure of several key players, including Maddy Rocci while Cayla George and Issie Bourne are also believed to be on the move.
