Key Details

By the Numbers

  • Jessica McDowell-White (Sydney Flames) starred with 19 points, five rebounds and five assists in 29 minutes.
  • Nyadiew Puoch (UC Capitals) scored 24 points, and had eight rebounds and one assist in 37 minutes.

What Happened

The Flames established early control and never relinquished their advantage, leading for over 37 minutes of the 40-minute contest. Sydney opened with a strong 22-14 first quarter before extending their advantage to 53-34 at halftime. The Capitals managed to cut into the deficit during the third period, outscoring Sydney 21-16, but the Flames responded with a composed final quarter to secure the 12-point victory.

Jessica McDowell-White proved instrumental for Sydney, delivering an outstanding performance from beyond the arc. The guard connected on 4-from-6 from downtown while adding five assists to orchestrate the Flames' offense. Her efficient shooting was complemented by Madeleine Norris, who came off the bench to provide a spark with 16 points on exceptional 3-from-3 shooting from the field, including a perfect 3-from-4 from three-point range.

Despite the loss, Nyadiew Puoch put forth a valiant effort for the Capitals with a game-high 24 points. The forward shot an impressive 7-from-9 from inside the arc and grabbed eight boards in 37 minutes of action. Nicole Munger provided solid support with 16 points on efficient shooting, connecting on 4-from-6 triples, but it wasn't enough to overcome Sydney's balanced scoring attack.

The Flames' superior three-point shooting proved decisive in the contest. Sydney connected on an outstanding 12-from-26 attempts from downtown (46.15%), while the Capitals struggled from deep, managing just 6-from-18 (33.3%). This 18-point differential from beyond the arc more than accounted for the final margin. Sydney also controlled the boards, out-rebounding UC Capitals 43-35, with Keely Froling leading the way with seven rebounds despite shooting just 3-from-11 from the field.

The Flames maintained their composure throughout, recording 17 assists while limiting turnovers to 14. UC Capitals managed 20 assists but struggled to convert their ball movement into consistent scoring opportunities against Sydney's defence. The Capitals' bench contributed just four points compared to Sydney's 26, highlighting the depth advantage that proved crucial in securing the victory.
