Kendric Davis has responded to criticism following his fiery post-game clash with Bryce Cotton in dominant fashion after leading the Sydney Kings to a 106-93 win over the Adelaide 36ers in game three of the NBL26 Championship Series at Qudos Bank Arena to move within one win of another championship.
Davis needed to respond after Cotton scored 15 fourth-quarter points, including the game-winner, to level the series up less than 48 hours earlier in Adelaide and he did exactly that recording 34 points and 15 assists in front of the largest crowd in NBL history with 18,373 in the stands.
What made Davis' performance more impressive was he had no turnovers despite playing the full 40 minutes.
The man, who finished second to Cotton by two points in what became a controversial MVP vote, cleared up his respect for the 36ers superstar after the game three victory.
"I just love to compete, I think Bryce would say the same thing, I mean I grew up watching him, come on, I just love to compete against greatness, I want to be the future of this league, so it's fun," Davis said in his post-game interview.
That respect still didn't stop Davis from clapping in the face of Cotton and having some words to his rival at the end of the Kings' victory.
Once again the Kings turned the game around in the third quarter, winning the period 21-17 after trailing at half-time before closing the door with a 33-23 final term.
"(What it took was) 40 minutes of team together basketball," Davis said.
"I can go down the line, from Delly, JG... everyone that don't even play, coaches had us prepared and man our crowd was unbelievable.
"We got stops in the third quarter, our defence and our crowd got behind us, our crowd got us going and we couldn't do it without them."
Davis was the star of the show but had support with valuable contributions from Xavier Cooks (18 points, eight rebounds and five assists), Jaylin Galloway (17 points, 5-from-8 from three) and Tim Soares (12 points and 10 rebounds).
John Jenkins continued his improved shooting from game two, leading Adelaide with 22 points and 6-from-10 from beyond the arc, while Zylan Cheatham had an impressive first half before slowing down in the second and finishing with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Cotton finished with 15 points and 12 assists, while Isaac Humphries and Flynn Cameron both had 12 points each.
Game two is on Wednesday night at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre.
