Roster Changes
Cadee's solution for desperate Brisbane Bullets
The former Bullet believes Brisbane's answer is staring them right in the face
- The Brisbane Bullets sit eight on the NBL ladder with five wins from 13 games
- Brisbane will be replacing all three imports they started the season with after Javon Freeman-Liberty left earlier in the season
- Lamar Patterson has had three double-figure scoring games for the Bullets this season
Former Brisbane Bullet Jason Cadee believes the club's answer to their import problems is standing right in front of them.
With the Bullets now on the lookout for two new imports after axing Jaylen Adams and a season-ending knee injury to Casey Prather, Cadee said he would only look for one replacement and sign Lamar Patterson to an actual roster spot for the remainder of NBL26.
Patterson, who is in his third stint with the Bullets, is signed as a Nominated Replacement Player but has impressed in his seven games for Brisbane this season, helping his team to big road wins over the Perth Wildcats and the New Zealand Breakers, where he had 20 points and six rebounds as well as the game-winning basket.
Cadee - a former teammate of Patterson's at the Bullets - told basketball.com.au the roster changes he'd make if he was at Brisbane.
"I think they should just add LP for the rest of the season, I don't know why they wouldn't do that," he said.
"I would elevate LP and then add a four-man who can go get you a bucket, because they need to replace Casey at that position.
"Now that Norto (Mitch Norton) is back, and the young guys have been playing well, I'd start Norto at the point alongside LP and LP can take care of the ball-handling duties when Norto goes out.
"To me that makes the most sense, LP already has a lot of familiarity with the team after playing some games and training the whole team, and they looked pretty good when he was there too, so I think that's the way to go.
Cadee said Patterson's basketball IQ makes the game easier for all his teammates, especially the likes of big man Tyrell Harrison and the team's sharpshooters like Dakota Mathias and Alex Ducas.
"Although he can still put up big numbers, LP's impact isn't just felt in that way, he's a very smart basketball player and just does things that makes the game easier for others," he said.
"I think you could see that in the games he's played.
"He can create some easy opportunities for Tyrell, for Mathias and their shooters, that's what LP does, he's not just a guy who can get a bucket, he can orchestrate the offensive side of the game for the Bullets."
The 34-year-old Patterson is a two-time All-NBL First Team member from 2021 and 2022.
