American centre Dean Uthoff is the only player in NBL history to shoot more than 60% from the field on more than 500 made shots.
The 211cm Iowan was 1,596-from-2,645 in 260 (60.3%) in 260 career games between 1983 and 1996 for Nunawading, Eastside Spectres, and the Sydney Kings.
He scored 3,755 points with 562 coming from the free throw line. His field goal percentage was better than his free throw percentage – 562-1,004 (56%).
As part of basketball.com.au’s Every NBL Player Ever archive, we have compiled the Top 15 players in NBL history with best field goal percentage with a minimum of 500 makes. There have been more than 2,100 players to suit up since the league started in 1979.
Fathers of two NBA players – Warrick Giddey and Dave Simmons – are also in the Top 15. Warwick is the father of Chicago Bulls superstar Josh Giddey and Dave the father of NBA All-Star and now professional fisherman Ben Simmons.
Warrick played 16 seasons in the NBL, winning two championships with the Melbourne Tigers, and 449 games while Dave played 13 seasons between 1989 and 2,000-01. Simmons scored 5,074 points while Warrick finished with 1,516 on a team that featured the league's all-time leading scorer Andrew Gaze.
Clearly there weren't enough shots for the gritty role player, who pulled down more rebounds (1,912), than points scored.
All 15 players on the list shot more than 53% from the field with James "The Alabama Slammer" Crawford dunking his way to almost 55% on 8,361 shots in his remarkable 504-game, 19-year career.
