Several NBL imports have their sights on becoming Aussies following Bryce Cotton's lead

  • Bryce Cotton is the latest NBL import to become an Australian citizen
  • Casey Prather and Tyler Harvey are both believed to be in the process of becoming a citizen
  • Some NBL legends including Lanard Copeland, Mark Davis and more all started as imports in the league

Melbourne United’s Chicago-born star Milton Doyle has joined the growing list of American NBL imports who want to call Australia home.

After Adelaide ace Bryce Cotton’s years-long citizenship saga ended in October, Code Sports can reveal Doyle, 32, has begun exploring his options for permanent residency.

The former Brooklyn Net joins an influx of high-level imports who have brought their talents to the NBL and fallen in love with the Australian way of life.

Brisbane’s star forward Casey Prather, a triple-NBL title winner, and Illawarra’s beloved championship marksman Tyler Harvey head that list, with the latter understood to be eligible for citizenship as soon as this month.

Father of four Doyle, who moved to Melbourne this season after three years in Tasmania, has four children with wife Keyara, his youngest Milani born this year in Australia.

“Right now it’s just the process of learning what I need to do to actually get it, so just starting the process, talking and figuring out what the next steps are, but I’ve been enjoying it out here,” Doyle told Code Sports.

“Australia’s almost the same as being home for us, so it’s been a very easy adjustment.

“Becoming a citizen would help me out making a plan of what I want to do if I want to stay out here and coach, because I think that’s a big possibility for me.”
