What Happened
The Flyers established early control with a stellar first quarter, outscoring the Flames 28-21. Their momentum carried through the first half as they extended their advantage to 51-41 at the main break, with Bourne already making her presence felt in the paint.
The third quarter proved decisive as Southside Melbourne maintained their intensity while limiting Sydney's scoring opportunities. The Flyers' defense held the Flames to just 16 points in the period while adding 19 of their own to stretch the lead to 70-57 heading into the final quarter.
Bourne's exceptional performance was built on outstanding shooting efficiency, going 8-from-10 from the field including a solid 7-from-8 from the charity stripe. Her dominant display in the paint was complemented by Maddi Rocci's 16 points on efficient 5-from-6 shooting from two-point range, while Tera Reed contributed 14 points with sharp shooting from downtown.
The Flyers' superior shooting accuracy proved the difference throughout the contest. They shot an impressive 68.57% from the field compared to Sydney's 54.35%, while their three-point shooting at 33.3% outclassed the Flames' dismal 19.23% from beyond the arc. Southside Melbourne also controlled the boards with 39 rebounds to Sydney's 29, giving them crucial second-chance opportunities.
For Sydney, Unique Thompson provided the primary offensive threat with 22 points on efficient 9-from-12 shooting from the field, while Lauren Nicholson added 19 points despite the team's struggles. However, the Flames' inability to find their range from deep ultimately cost them, as they managed just five triples compared to the Flyers' seven successful attempts from downtown.
