'JaVale of a buy': McGee is a must for Round 3

No double-headers in Round 3 — value hunting at forward spots is the key SuperCoach challenge.

No double-headers just straight up hardcore coaching is the challenge in Round 3 of SuperCoach NBL Beat the Coach.

SuperCoaches had the benefit of double points in the first two rounds but this week it's about research: Form; Opponent; and Luck!

JaVale McGee scored 61 points in Round 2 on a 32-point and 13-rebound double-double and at just $277K is the buy of the round. Tyrell Harrison is now $348K (+$42K) on the back of being the top points scorer after three rounds. The two bigs will set you back $625.4K of the $1.4M salary cap.

Illawarra's McGee, 37, goes up against Perth's Jo Lual-Acuil Jr ($280.3K) while Brisbane's Harrison faces Tasmania's Will Magnay ($305.6K). Both match-ups are tough.

Taipans guard Reyne Smith is the biggest market mover overall. His value has gone up $33.7K to $102.7K, which is still outstanding value. The Taipans face Adelaide in the first of a Thursday night double-header tonight.

36ers star Bryce Cotton ($452.5K) isn't (yet) the most expensive player. That honour belongs to former 36ers star Kendric Davis ($481.3) but his dismal shooting performance in Round 2 punished SuperCoaches while Cotton's 39 delivered 51 points. Adelaide is on the road to Cairns while the (0-1) Kings face the (0-3) New Zealand "Brakers" in Sydney on Saturday.

The challenge SuperCoaches have this week is at the forward position given McGee, Harrison and Cotton eat up a bulk of the salary cap. Finding value at the 3 and 4 spots will be the key to beating the the still anonymous coach who has gone with Cotton, Jack McVeigh ($265.5K), McGee, Todd Blanchfield ($94K), Biwali Bayles ($69K) and Karim Lopez ($209.4K).
