Torrey Craig set to join Sydney Kings as injury for the remainder of the NBL26 season

Veteran NBA small forward and former NBL Defensive Player of the Year Torrey Craig is set to be unveiled as an import for the Sydney Kings for the remainder of NBL26, it is being reported.

Craig, 35, has played almost 460 NBA games after spending three seasons in the NBL between 2014 and 2017 with the Cairns Taipans and Brisbane Bullets.

The Kings are bringing in the veteran after defensive wing Bul Kuol ruptured his ACL and is out for the season. Former MVP Xavier Cooks (ankle) and captain Matthew Dellavedova (concussion) are set to miss HoopsFest this week because of injuries.

Craig was a teammate of Australian Boomers and Chicago Bulls star Josh Giddey last season.

Craig played 84 games in the NBL, and had eight double-doubles as well as two 30-point ball games.

  • 34 pts, 11 reb, 77.8% FG — Brisbane @ Adelaide — Nov 19, 2016
  • 30 pts, 18 reb (career-high rebounds) — Brisbane @ Illawarra — Feb 11, 2017
  • 28 pts, 85.7% FG — Cairns @ Adelaide — Dec 19, 2014
  • 22 pts, 14 reb — Brisbane @ Sydney — Oct 30, 2016
  • 21 pts, 11 reb, 80% FG, 4 threes — Cairns vs Perth — Jan 24, 2015

Craig, who is 1.98m (6'6'), carved out an eight-season NBA career (2017–18 to 2024–25) as a dependable, defense-first wing who earned minutes across multiple playoff teams through versatility, physicality, and role discipline rather than usage or volume scoring.

Torrey Craig's NBA Career

  • Denver Nuggets (2017–2020) – Craig broke into the league as a rotation stopper, guarding bigger wings and forwards. He was a regular playoff contributor, starting games in Denver’s 2019 run and providing switchable defence, offensive rebounding, and corner spacing.
  • Milwaukee / Phoenix (2020–2022) – A mid-season move in 2020–21 split his year between Milwaukee and Phoenix. He became a trusted Suns playoff piece, helping Phoenix reach the 2021 NBA Finals as a matchup defender.
  • Phoenix Suns (2022–23) – His most productive season offensively. Craig logged heavy minutes (24.7 mpg), posted career-best scoring (7.4 ppg), and shot nearly 40% from three, while continuing to defend across positions.
  • Chicago Bulls (2023–24) – Transitioned into a lower-usage wing role, providing spacing, toughness, and defensive cover in the rotation.
  • Chicago / Boston (2024–25) – Played limited minutes late in his career phase, functioning as experienced depth rather than a nightly rotation staple.
