Australian Opals superstar Alanna Smith will take home a share of a USD $600,000 prize pool after helping the Mist to the Unrivaled three-on-three championship in Miami.
Smith had 11 points and six rebounds in almost 11 minutes as the Mist, led by 32 points from Breanna Stewart, beat the Phantom 80-74 despite 40 points from Los Angeles Sparks star Kelsey Plum.
The 29-year-old Minnesota Lynx forward/centre impressed throughout the second edition of the competition, which was started by Stewart and co-founder Napheesa Collier, reaching double digits in six of the Mist's games during the regular season with a season-high of 18 points on February 27, where she went 4-from-7 from the three-point line.
Smith also had 11 points, going 3-from-3 from beyond the arc, as well as six rebounds, five assists and two steals in the Mist's semi-final win over the Breeze.
The Mist also featured the WNBA's Most Improved Player and 2025 WNBL champion with the Bendigo Spirit in Veronica Burton, who had six points and five assists in the championship game.
The Unrivaled championship adds another accolade to Smith's career, which already includes last season's WNBA Defensive Player of the Year, on top of a bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
An incredible rise for Smith considering four years ago she was without a contract in the WNBA and was playing for the Townsville Flames in the NBL1 North, where of course, she led them to the championship under Shannon Seebohm.
Like majority of the WNBA, Smith is a free agent but uncertainty faces the league who are currently in negotiations on a new CBA - negotiations which have reportedly hit a stalemate.
