Revealed: 12 standout Aussies from opening week

Some of the Aussies who headlined opening week of college basketball.

From game-changing big men to dominant freshman, see the Aussies who stood out in the NCAA

College basketball has tipped off and it's been a whirlwind keeping up with the many NCAA men making their mark at the Division 1 level.

Each week, we will be doing a 'This week in the NCAA' weekly wrap for both the Aussie men and women in college hoops with myself and Hayley Wildes.

Here's a quick dive into some of Australia's top performers across the first week of action.

Alex Condon (Florida)

Best Performance - 25 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, three blocks, two steals vs North Florida

Condon made a statement against North Florida, dominating every area of the box score. Consistent efforts like this will see his draft stock skyrocket.

Joel Foxwell (Portland)

Best Performance - 23 points, four rebounds, three assists vs UC Davis

Foxwell has come out of the gates as our most productive freshman NCAA-wide. He's averaging over 17 and 6 assists across his first three games, earning WCC Freshman of the Week Honours.

Oscar Cluff (Purdue)

Best Performance - 14 points, nine rebounds, four blocks vs Oakland

As expected, Oscar Cluff is dominating the paint for Purdue. He's been typically efficient, and  protected the rim well versus Oakland. A good start to what should be a head-turning senior campaign.

Jayden Stone (Missouri)

Best Performance - 16 points, seven rebounds, five assists vs VMI

After sitting out last season, Stone's still every bit the scorer who put up over 20 points a game at Detroit Mercy in 23-24. Double digit scoring in all three games so far this season.

Tuburu Naivalurua (Oakland)

Best Performance - 11 points, seven rebounds, four assists, two blocks, one steal vs Purdue

It was a hard choice to pick between this game and Buru's 18-point effort against Michigan earlier in the week. The high motor forward with two great games against quality opponents.

Chol Machot (Charleston)

Best Performance - 18 points, nine rebounds, two assists, two blocks (25 mins) vs Liberty

After a season in junior college, Chol Machot is already flashing his limitless upside with Charleston, with immense productivity in limited minutes. The length and scoring ability is undeniable - if he learns to foul less we should see more minutes and even bigger numbers.

Max Mackinnon (LSU)

Best Performance - 19 points, five assists, three rebounds, 4-from-5 3PT vs Tarleton State

Mackinnon made a strong early impression to prove he can compete for LSU with a 19 point effort in his opening game. He's been an improving shooter every year of his college career, and early indications are he may be continuing to trend in a positive direction.

Josh Dent (Saint Mary’s)

Best Performance - 18 points, six assists, three rebounds vs St Thomas-Minnesota

After averaging less than a point a game across his freshman season last year, Dent's turn has finally arrived, averaging over 30 minutes a game over his first two outings. The floor general should re-establish himself as one of Australia's most exciting point guard prospects as his season progresses.

Anthony Dell’Orso (Arizona)

Best Performance - 18 points, 3-from-5 3PT vs Utah Tech

Dell'Orso's role on this Wildcats team is to shoot, and with performances like this against Utah Tech, he's set to excel. Now in his senior year, we've seen an uptick in opportunity which should sustain as the year progresses.

Austin Rapp (Wisconsin)

Best Performance - 13 points, two rebounds, four assists vs Campbell

After a big jump from the WCC, Aussi Rapp has had a smooth transition to Big 10 power Wisconsin, playing big minutes and demonstrating how his shooting and distributing will translate to a bigger program.

Roman Siulepa (Pittsburgh)

Best Performance - 11 points, five rebounds, one assist vs Eastern Michigan

It's great to see Roman Siulepa playing consistent basketball on a meaningful stage. As expected, he's been an immediate difference maker on the glass and transition, and has earned starters minutes out the gate as a freshman.

Joseph Locandro (Maryland Eastern Shore)

Best Performance - 17 points, five rebounds (19 mins) vs Georgia Tech

A shout-out is required for big man Joseph Locandro, who had the game of his career against Georgia Tech. Top scoring for Maryland Eastern Shore in only 19 minutes, Locandro helped push the game to overtime against a much stronger Yellow Jacket outfit, though they would ultimately lose 56-52.
