What Happened
The Chicago Sky controlled the game from the outset, taking a 23-22 lead after the first quarter and extending it to 46-43 by halftime. They maintained their advantage in the third quarter, outscoring Dallas 20-16 to build a seven-point cushion heading into the final period. The Sky finished strong with a 28-24 fourth quarter to secure the 11-point victory.
Atkins caught fire in the second half, scoring 15 of her 26 points after the break. Her four three-pointers proved crucial in maintaining Chicago's lead whenever Dallas threatened to make a comeback. Courtney Vandersloot orchestrated the Sky's offense masterfully with seven assists while adding 15 points of her own.
Angel Reese continued her impressive rookie campaign with 14 points and nine rebounds, including four offensive boards that created valuable second-chance opportunities for Chicago. Her aggressive play helped the Sky establish a 39-32 rebounding advantage, a key factor in their victory.
The Sky's bench was particularly effective, outscoring Dallas' reserves 24-20. Rebecca Allen's plus-minus of +19 in 24 minutes highlighted her impact beyond her seven points, while Elizabeth Williams contributed eight points on efficient 2-from-4 shooting in just 15 minutes.
Defensively, Chicago forced 14 Dallas turnovers, converting them into 18 points. The Sky's perimeter defense limited the Wings to just 26.7% shooting from beyond the arc (4-from-15), while connecting on eight triples of their own. This outside shooting advantage proved decisive in a game where both teams shot similarly from the field overall.
