Somfai, Foxwell claim freshmen honours

Australian US college basketball players Lara Somfai and Joel Foxwell have both won Freshmen of the Week just three games in their NCAA careers.
South Australian Somfai took home the ACC Rookie of the Week after averaging a 14.3-point and 10.3 rebound double-double for the 3-0 Stanford Cardinal while Victorian Foxwell, the younger brother of Australian Boomer and South East Melbourne Phoenix guard Owen, won WCC honours after leading the Portland Pilots to a 3-0 start with an average of 17.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game.

Somfai is the Cardinal's leading scorer and rebounder. The 1.88m Adelaide-born forward scored 15 points and pulled down eight rebounds in her first game of college basketball. She had 14 points and 13 boards against the Broncos, and then followed it up with a 14-10 double against the Mustangs.
She is the first Stanford freshman with double-doubles in back-to-back games in five years while her 14-points and 10-rebound and three steals against Cal Poly made her the first major conference freshman to deliver those numbers since UConn's Sarah Strong against Villanova on March 9, 2025 (20 points, 16 rebounds, 3 steals).
Meanwhile, Joel Foxwell dropped 18 points, three rebounds, four assists and four steals in a 120-83 win against Willamette in his first NCAA career game.
Foxwell led the Pilots to a clutch 67-63 win against UC Davis yesterday with a game-high 23 points to go with four rebounds and three assists. Foxwell knocked down five three on 44% from the field, 33% from three to go with 86% free throws.
