Revealed: Ben Simmons set to train with Boomers

With NBA teams reportedly interested, Ben Simmons has paid his own way to join the Boomers

Ben Simmons will take his first steps towards representing the Boomers at the 2028 LA Olympics when he participates in a player-led Australian men’s national team mini-camp in Melbourne on Monday, writes Matt Logue from CODE Sports.
As revealed by veteran NBA scribe Marc Spears, Simmons is expected to train with “zeros restrictions”.
The three-time NBA All-Star paid his own way to the week-long camp at Courtside in Port Melbourne - which is set to feature Australian players like Josh Giddey and Dyson Daniels. A coach who worked out Simmons recently said he has regained his athleticism.
The injury-plagued 30-year-old recently declared he is the best he’s felt in years. He last played in the NBA with the Nets and Clippers 24-25 season.
According to Spears - several NBA teams have expressed interest to Simmons’ camp, including one West squad that offered a training camp invite.
He is also open to signing a veteran minimum contract. Simmons has dreams of playing for Australia during 2028 LA Olympics and attending national side mini-camp aids this hope. Simmons, currently home in Melbourne, recently flaunted his ripped physique and fuelled speculation he might be preparing a return to the high-flying US league.
Arizona State University associate head coach and Simmons' godfather, David Patrick, also told Spears the three-time NBA All-Star has regained his athleticism.
Reports from the US suggest Simmons could be headed back to the NBA, probably for the Philadelphia 76ers, which selected him with the No.1 pick in the 2016 NBA Draft.
Simmons, who has ridden the highs and lows of an NBA career that promised plenty but appeared to end with a whimper, teased the prospect of a comeback as he posted pics of himself working out on a Melbourne basketball court on Sunday.
“I wouldn’t change the story,” Simmons told his 6.8m Instagram followers.
