Cleveland Cavaliers guard Tyrese Proctor catches fire as Boomers crush Guam by 72 in Perth

Australian NBA guard Tyrese Proctor announced himself as a key piece of Australia's next generation, leading the Boomers to a dominant 124-52 victory against Guam in their FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Asian Qualifier at RAC Arena on Friday, July 3, 2026.

Australia never looked troubled, opening with a 32-16 first quarter before extending the margin to 39 points by halftime.

Adam Caporn's side won every quarter and closed the game with a 14-0 run to complete a comprehensive 72-point victory in front of 5,580 fans.

Australia's defensive intensity dictated every aspect of the contest, turning Guam's mistakes into immediate offence. The Boomers scored 43 points from 17 Guam turnovers, held the visitors to just two points from Australian miscues and consistently punished them in transition with a 24-4 advantage in fast-break points. Their dominance on the glass also translated into 39 second-chance points from 24 offensive rebounds, while they outscored Guam 38-12 in the paint.

Australia's bench outscored Guam's bench 69-0!

Proctor finished with a game-high 22 points in just 21 minutes, drilling six three-pointers and providing the offensive spark that broke Guam's resistance.

The Cleveland Cavaliers guard shot 7-from-14 from the field and 6-from-11 from beyond the arc while adding three assists, two rebounds and not committing a turnover.

His defining stretch came late in the third quarter when he buried three consecutive triples in just over a minute to push Australia's lead beyond 50 points.

Veteran sharpshooter Angus Glover was equally impressive off the bench, pouring in 19 points on 7-from-13 shooting, including five three-pointers, while also collecting four assists and two steals.

Jack McVeigh continued his outstanding international form with 14 points, five rebounds and four assists without a turnover, while Keanu Pinder produced an energetic double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds in fewer than 15 minutes.

Bryce Cotton added 18 points and five assists despite limited court time, Mitch Creek finished with 11 points and five rebounds, and Reyne Smith made the most of his Boomers opportunity with nine points after knocking down all three of his field-goal attempts.

Australia's depth was evident throughout the contest.

All 12 Boomers scored, 10 players grabbed at least one rebound and nine players recorded multiple assists as the hosts piled up 32 assists on 45 made field goals.

The Boomers dominated every statistical category.

Australia shot 51.7 per cent from the field, including 47.1 per cent from three-point range after making 24 triples. They also won the rebound count 54-26, forced 17 Guam turnovers and finished with a remarkable +108 points differential from beyond the three-point line.

Guam never led after the opening tip.

Earnest Ross Jr battled hard with 22 points, accounting for almost half of Guam's total score, but received little support as Australia smothered the visitors defensively.

The victory continued Australia's unbeaten run in the World Cup qualifying campaign ahead of Monday night's clash with the Philippines, while also providing an encouraging glimpse of the Boomers' emerging generation led by Proctor, Armstrong and Condon alongside "Boomer Bryce" Cotton.
