Adam Caporn has begun his tenure as Head Coach of the Australian Boomers, leading the team into the upcoming Colorado Clash and 2025 FIBA Asia Cup qualification window with a focus on broadening the coaching framework and strengthening internal systems.
Basketball Australia’s approach includes integrating coaches and support staff with varied skill sets and professional backgrounds to prepare for the increasingly competitive international calendar.
“A priority for this campaign is initiating the development of a staff with a broad range of skills and experiences that will collaborate to uncover the best ideas that will maximise the strengths of our playing group,” Caporn said.

He noted that the international schedule demands a coaching group that can adapt quickly while remaining cohesive across multiple tournaments.
“The FIBA landscape requires that our coaching staff is deep, aligned and agile. I am very excited about the talent and character of our coaches and thankful for their commitment to the program,” he added.
Melbourne United Head Coach Dean Vickerman returns in an associate role, having previously led the Boomers during the Trans-Tasman Throwdown. LSU Associate Head Coach David Patrick continues in an assistant role, focusing on athlete experience and efficiency. Houston Rockets assistant Garrett Jackson joins with responsibilities in training and preparation.
Perth Wildcats coach Keegan Crawford will lead scouting and technology, while Boomers assistant coach Jacob Chance will remain involved in team preparation.
Andrew Bogut, a FIBA Hall of Fame inductee and former national team centre, has joined the program in an advisory capacity during Asia Cup preparations. Bogut will offer insight into international basketball systems and high-level competition structures.
Sam Flores, a former Brown University player, will manage data analytics, and Nick Haywood has been appointed to lead leadership and culture development initiatives.
The Boomers began training camp on the Gold Coast on Monday, ahead of their match against the University of Colorado on Thursday 31 July at the Gold Coast Sports and Leisure Centre.
