NBA writer Sam Vecenie heaps praise on one of the greatest shooters in NBL history Chris Goulding

He's done everything there is to do in Australian basketball - lighting up the NBL for more than 500 games and the international stage for the Boomers at two Olympic Games with his laser-like sharpshooting from the perimeter.

And despite being towards the latter end of his professional career, Melbourne United skipper Chris Goulding still has a reputation as one of the best shooters in the world.

Appearing on the latest episode of the Cut to the Jase podcast, senior NBA writer at The Athletic Sam Vecenie said the man known as CG43 shoots as well as anybody not in the NBA.

"I'm a huge fan of these guys who are just off of movement, it's such a difficult skill," Vecenie told NBL legend Jason Cadee on the basketball.com.au podcast.

"It is such a difficult skill, man, to develop that ability to just set and fire, and I think Chris does it as well as anybody not in the NBA that I've seen.

"I think if you put him in the NBA, he'd probably be one of the best 15 shooters in the world, at that level even.

"I think the world of Chris Goulding's skillset, I think the world of that guy's attitude.

"You just watch him shoot around even before games and go through his system, the best shooters in the world are these guys that have regimented workouts and systems that they go through day after day and game after game, and he is so, so special to me in that regard."

Goulding, who led United to championships in 2018 and 2021, passed the 500-game mark earlier in NBL26 and currently sits third on the NBL's all-time list in three-pointers made.

He will have the chance to add to that when Melbourne takes on the Perth Wildcats at RAC Arena tonight in the last play-in game, with the winner to play the minor premier, Sydney Kings, in the semi-finals series starting next week.

United overcame the injury-riddled Tasmania JackJumpers in the play-in elimination game at John Cain Arena on May 5, with Finn Delany exploding for 33 points to keep his team's season alive.
