What Happened

The Hawks established early control with a 28-25 first quarter advantage, but the Hornets responded strongly in the second period, outscoring Atlanta 30-25 to take a narrow 55-53 halftime lead. The momentum continued to shift throughout the contest, with both teams trading baskets in an entertaining back-and-forth affair.

Atlanta regained the initiative in the third quarter, posting an impressive 39 points compared to Charlotte's 33 to enter the final period with a four-point cushion at 92-88. The Hawks' offensive explosion in the third quarter proved crucial, as they shot efficiently from the field whilst limiting the Hornets' scoring opportunities through improved defensive intensity.

The fourth quarter became a tense defensive battle, with both teams managing just over 20 points each. Atlanta managed to hold their nerve in the closing stages, outscoring Charlotte 21-22 in a nail-biting finish that saw the lead change hands multiple times before the Hawks secured the three-point victory.

Jalen Johnson delivered a masterful triple-double performance, shooting an efficient 11-from-22 from the field whilst orchestrating Atlanta's offense with 11 assists. His ability to impact multiple facets of the game proved decisive, as he controlled the tempo and made crucial plays when the Hawks needed them most. Dyson Daniels provided excellent support with 22 points and nine rebounds, whilst Onyeka Okongwu contributed 20 points on solid 8-from-18 shooting.

For Charlotte, Kon Knueppel matched Johnson's scoring output with 28 points, connecting on seven-from-11 from beyond the arc in an outstanding shooting display. Collin Sexton added 22 points with efficient 8-from-16 shooting, whilst Miles Bridges chipped in 21 points despite struggling from three-point range with just one-from-eight from downtown. The Hornets' superior free-throw shooting (90% to Atlanta's 75%) and rebounding advantage (43-37) weren't enough to overcome their struggles with ball control.
