Duop Reath’s journey from South Sudan to the NBA is something out of a movie. His perseverance and dedication to the game has made him a star in Australian basketball.
Reath, 29, remains at the Portland Trail Blazers for the 2025-26 NBA season after accepting a fully guaranteed $2.2 million (USD) contract.

Playing Style
Reath is a silky-smooth modern big man, being able to stretch the floor offensively at a high level with his three-point shooting. His offensive game isn’t just a catch-and-shoot one, being able to face up and attack off the dribble with a soft touch around the rim. On the defensive side he can wall up and be a force inside the paint for his team with great rim protection.
Duop Reath's Career
Reath started his collegiate in the NJCAA at Lee College in Texas. Spending two seasons there from 2014-2016, in his sophomore season he averaged 14.6 points and 8.4 rebounds per game.
In 2016, Reath transferred to Louisiana State University (LSU) of the South-Eastern Conference. In his senior season at the Tigers he averaged 12.6 points and 5.3 rebounds. During the season he had his collegiate career high of 31 points against Vanderbilt.
Going undrafted in 2018, the adopted Western Australian signed in Serbia for FMP where he would spend the first two seasons of his professional career. In his second season there he averaged 11.7 points and 4.7 rebounds a night.
He went on to continue his career in Serbia with Crvena Zvezda Belgrade for the 2020-21 season. While his numbers dipped to 5.5 points and 2.5 rebounds, he would find his first success at the professional level. Winning both ABA and Serbian League championships.

Reath followed his success in Serbia into a bronze medal winning campaign with the Australian Boomers at the 2020 Olympic Games. While only stepping on the court for four of Australia’s six games in Tokyo he still contributed to bringing home Australia’s first men’s basketball medal at the Olympics.
He would join Boomers head coach Brian Goorjian at the Illawarra Hawks for the 2021/22 season. Starting for Illawarra he averaged 15 points and 7.1 rebounds a night, taking them to a top two finish in the regular season. Reath and the Hawks season ended in the semi-finals losing to eventual champions the Sydney Kings.
The following season, Reath signed in China with the Qingdao Eagles of the CBA. He averaged professional career highs of 18.2 points and 7.8 rebounds a game in 39 appearances. He continued 2023 in Lebanon signing with Al Riyadi Beirut where he helped them to a championship.
Reath played in the 2023 FIBA World Cup for the Boomers, playing as their only centre after Jock Landale’s injury before the tournament. He averaged 8.6 points and 2.4 rebounds a night in Okinawa, Japan before Australia was bounced in the second round.
Reath got a shot in the NBA with the Portland Trail Blazers in 2023 at Summer League. He shined being the team’s starting centre and earned himself a two-way contract. His two-way contract was converted to a standard deal in February 2024. Reath is still with the Trail Blazers heading into the 2025-26 NBA season.

Paris Olympics
The Paris Olympics marked Reath’s second games and third time representing Australia at a major international tournament. He helped the Boomers to the quarter-finals where they would come agonisingly close to a semi-final berth against Serbia.
