Shockingly, the Australian Opals have not won the Asia Cup since joining the tournament in 2017.
The Opals were beaten by Japan in 2017, 2019, 2021 and China in 2023 and again will be without their WNBA stars and head coach Sandy Brondello for the 2025 tournament between July 13 and July 20, 2025 in China.
Australia's WNBA stars are in the middle of the season in the United States as well as New York Liberty head coach Brondello.
The tournament's winner earns direct qualification to the 2026 FIBA World Cup while second through sixth go into the Qualifying Tournament in March 2026.
