Round 1: Norwood Flames 81 Woodville Warriors 86 – Women – March 21 at The ARC Campbelltown
Brittany Hodges delivered an outstanding 30-point performance as Woodville Warriors stormed past Norwood Flames 86–81 at The ARC Campbelltown on March 21. The Warriors' explosive fourth quarter proved decisive, outscoring their opponents 28–18 to overturn a narrow deficit and secure the five-point victory.
Game Snapshot
- Quarter scores: Norwood 21–23, 23–21, 19–14, 18–28
- Lead changes throughout the contest before Woodville's final-quarter dominance
- Warriors controlled the boards 45–38 and forced crucial turnovers down the stretch
Hodges dominates inside
Hodges was virtually unstoppable from the field, connecting on 11-of-19 attempts while adding nine rebounds in a masterful display. Her efficiency near the basket and composure at the charity stripe (8-of-10) provided Woodville with the consistent scoring threat they needed throughout the contest.
Her ability to score in traffic and draw fouls proved particularly valuable during the Warriors' crucial fourth-quarter surge, where her seven points helped swing momentum decisively.
Ortlepp provides crucial support
Taylor Ortlepp delivered an all-around performance with 21 points, four steals and five assists, showcasing her impact on both ends of the floor. Her 4-of-8 shooting from downtown kept Norwood's defence honest while her defensive pressure created multiple transition opportunities.
Ortlepp's four steals were instrumental in generating the extra possessions that ultimately proved decisive, while her 43.75% field-goal percentage reflected solid shot selection throughout the contest.
Norwood's balanced attack falls short
Despite a full team effort led by Amy Cotton's 19 points, eight rebounds and six assists, Norwood couldn't sustain their early momentum. Cotton shot an efficient 7-of-13 from the field while contributing three steals in an impressive two-way display.
Caitlin Shillabeer provided valuable perimeter scoring with 17 points, including 4-of-7 performance from deep. Maddy Hinton facilitated effectively with eight assists alongside her 14 points, but Norwood's 26 turnovers ultimately proved costly against Woodville's aggressive defensive pressure.
Fourth-quarter execution seals victory
The Warriors transformed a tight contest with their dominant final period, where superior ball movement and defensive intensity created the separation they needed. Ambah Kowcun contributed 20 points despite shooting struggles from beyond the arc, while Jordan Hunter's veteran leadership and five rebounds provided crucial stability.
Woodville's ability to generate second-chance opportunities through offensive rebounding (19 offensive boards) helped offset their poor three-point shooting (26.67%), while their 75% free-throw shooting proved reliable in crunch time.
