What Happened

The Breakers established control early, matching Tasmania's intensity to finish the first quarter tied at 20-20. New Zealand then began to pull away in the second quarter, outscoring the JackJumpers 20-13 to take a seven-point lead into halftime.
New Zealand's dominance continued after the break as they extended their advantage with a commanding 23-11 third quarter. Their defense stifled Tasmania's offense, holding the visitors to just 11 points in the period and building a 19-point cushion heading into the final quarter.
Jackson-Cartwright displayed exceptional efficiency, shooting 8-from-13 from the field (61.5%) while going perfect from the free-throw line (5-from-5). His leadership at point guard was instrumental in orchestrating the Breakers' offense throughout the contest.
The Breakers' frontcourt controlled the glass, out-rebounding Tasmania 54-40, including 19 offensive rebounds that led to crucial second-chance points. Izaiah Brockington contributed 17 points on 8-from-18 shooting while Sam Mennenga added 12 points and eight rebounds.
Tasmania struggled from beyond the arc, connecting on just 5-from-19 three-point attempts (26.3%). Despite a late push in the fourth quarter where they outscored New Zealand 23-19, the deficit proved too great to overcome. Will Magnay's double-double (14 points, 12 rebounds) and Bryce Hamilton's 13 points weren't enough to counter the Breakers' balanced attack.
The JackJumpers were hampered by 11 turnovers compared to just two for New Zealand, creating a significant disparity in possession efficiency. The Breakers capitalized on these mistakes, turning them into valuable transition opportunities.
New Zealand's bench provided solid contributions, with Carlin Davison adding eight points, four rebounds, three steals, and one block in just 16 minutes. His 4-from-5 shooting efficiency helped maintain the Breakers' momentum whenever the starters needed rest.
Defensively, New Zealand's rim protection was outstanding with six blocks to Tasmania's three. This interior presence forced the JackJumpers into difficult shots throughout the game, resulting in their subpar 38.7% field goal percentage compared to the Breakers' more respectable 40.2%.
