Quin Snyder forming part of a Boomers' coaching triple threat looks unlikely to proceed.

  • Adam Caporn took over in March from Brian Goorjian as head coach of the Australian Boomers
  • Quin Snyder was set to support Adam Caporn and Dean Vickerman in a consultancy role
  • Snyder remains head coach of the Atlanta Hawks

The Boomers plan to secure Atlanta Hawks NBA coach Quin Snyder as a consultant has been put on the backburner, reports Code Sports' Matt Logue.

Snyder – who coaches Boomers defensive demon Dyson Daniels at the Hawks – was in talks to join the Australian national team in an advisory role.

The veteran NBA mentor was set to be on the ground with the team in the lead up to major tournaments like the World Cup and Olympics.

However, CODE Sports can reveal Snyder joining the Boomers in an official consultant capacity has been put aside.

New Australian coach Adam Caporn, who was appointed in March, has reached out to the American NBA coach – and will continue to do so – but these talks will remain in the background for now.

It’s understood Caporn wants to organically create his own structure around a consultant job, but could revisit Snyder in an official role in the future.

It comes as the Boomers look set to unveil its strongest Asia Cup team for August’s tournament in Saudi Arabia.

CODE Sports understands leading NBL stars like Xavier Cooks, Matthew Dellavedova and Will Magnay are all in the mix.

There is also a push for Australia’s leading overseas based players, including Jack McVeigh (G League via Houston Rockets) and rising Indiana Pacers NBA star Johnny Furphy to suit up in the green and gold.

This would help the Boomers field its best ever Asia Cup side given the squad has been primarily made up of NBL players in the past.

Australia will aim to win consecutive Asia Cup titles when the tournament gets underway in Saudi Arabia from August 5-17.

The Boomers will battle the University of Colorado Buffaloes on the Gold Coast on July 31 in a bid to prepare for their Asia Cup defence.
