The newest edition of Cut to the Jase is a BIG one with two of the NBL's rising stars in New Zealand Breakers centre Sam Mennenga and Brisbane Bullets rookie Jacob Holt the latest special guests.
Mennenga and Holt joined NBL legend and former Australian Boomers guard Jason Cadee to talk everything from their journey in basketball, their goals in the game as well as their up and down seasons with their respective franchises.
In his third season in the NBL, Mennenga has truly grown into one of the best big men in the competition, averaging more than 17 points and 6.6 rebounds per game, to lead the Breakers to be in the fight for a play-in spot come the business end of NBL26.
But the 24-year-old, who attended Davidson College where NBA legend Stephen Curry and former NBL MVP Derek Rucker attended, has become known for his thunderous poster dunks which has become the normal for the versatile big men.
He even points out his favourite slam this season, and to our surprise, it wasn't in an NBL game - instead choosing his tomahawk over Jack White in a Tall Blacks vs Boomers clash as the one that stands out most.
Mennenga's form has reportedly sparked NBA interest and the New Zealand international speaks to Cadee about how he believes his game would translate to the biggest stage.
On the other hand, first-year talent Holt has a unique path we've rarely seen in the NBL. Coming from a Canadian-Croation background, the 22-year-old who has been the one bright light in a dark season for the Bullets, takes us through his connection to Australia and how it helped him play as a local in the NBL.
The former Sacramento State college standout, known for his high-energy style and hustle plays, talks about how he's persisted through a season full of changes with the Bullets - including the departure of rookie head coach Stu Lash as well as numerous season-ending injuries to imports including Casey Prather and Dakota Mathias.
Destined for a big future in the NBL, Holt also takes us through his upbringing in Canada and the customary nicknames he's been given by his teammates since coming to Australia.
