SuperCoach NBL: Who to Buy, Hold, Sell & Captain in Round 5
Two of the Star Guard Tracker's best scorers are out, leaving SuperCoaches a 93.6-point-a-game hole.
- All 165 games of the NBL27 season in one list
- Every NBL27 roster, squad list and projected depth chart
- Every injured NBL player, with expected return dates
- Hammertime: Who is leading NBL27 in dunks
Welcome to Tasmania JackJumpers head coach Scott Roth’s world.
Parker Jackson-Cartwright ($405,200) out. Arnas Velicka ($277,000) out. That’s two of the SuperCoach NBL Star Guard Tracker’s best point-scorers.
To paraphrase: “SuperCoach lions don’t go to sleep; they don’t wake up wondering about what SuperCoach sheep said about them.”
Cartwright, averaging 53.4 SuperCoach NBL points per game, was a ride-or-die given the New Zealand Breakers have doubleheaders in Rounds 5, 7, 9 and 10.
The Breakers said it was a lower-leg injury, likely a calf, so they’ll likely ease (read: minutes restrictions) the point guard back.
Velicka, on the other hand, is not expected back until after the FIBA Break (eight weeks) with a quad injury. He’s leading the league in assists but to say he’s struggling from the field is an understatement. But still, he’s averaging 40.2 points per game.
Between them, that’s a 93.6 points-per-round hole that SuperCoach lions need to fill.
Next Man Up
Enter Grand Final MVP Kendric Davis ($436,000). SuperCoaches will most certainly tap the Trade Button for the Sydney Kings NBL26 champion, as hard as he tapped the badge on his singlet after a minor dust-up with six-time MVP Bryce Cotton ($473,900) at the end of yesterday's Sydney vs Adelaide clash.
The Kings have three straight doubleheader rounds (5, 6, and 7) and he might have a little something for the Breakers and Perth, especially given Brandon Knight ($277,000) is now hooping for the Wildcats.
- Kendric Davis ($436,000) on sale! He's $7,500 under his starting price, averages 41.8, third-best in the game, and Sydney host NZ Breakers and Perth in Round 5. Only 9.4% own him, so if you don't have him, he's the trade.
- Will Magnay ($269,300), now $356,800, averages 42.6, second-best in the game. Tasmania host Adelaide and NZ Breakers in Round 5, and only 12.9% own him. Our Round 4 call to buy him for Round 5 stands.
- Xavier Cooks ($308,000), 35 in Round 4, Round 5 double, five doubles to Round 11.
- Josh Bannan ($317,500), 38 in Round 4, Round 5 double, 0.6% owned.
- Taran Armstrong ($304,700), 30.8 average, Round 5 double, 3.2% owned.
- Buy now for Round 6: Tyrell Harrison ($336,100) scored 59 in Round 4 and Nate Hinton ($277,000) 44, and under 5% own either. Brisbane play once in Round 5, at home to SE Melbourne on Thursday. Then they double in Rounds 6, 7, 8 and 9.
- Value: David Johnson ($232,900), 41 in Round 4, Round 5 double, 4.2% owned.
- Cash cow: Makur Maker ($99,800), now $123,300, 19.3 average, Round 6 double.
- Nick Rakocevic ($188,400). Single in Round 5, but he averages 39.7 with doubles in Rounds 7 and 11 still to come. Never sell.
- Sam Mennenga ($303,100). We had him in Sell for Round 4 and he made us pay, scoring 62 at Perth. His price jumped $28,500 to $302,300. NZ Breakers double in Round 5, and only 20.8% own him. Hold.
- Cole Anthony ($300,000), 39 a game in Round 4, Melbourne doubles in Rounds 6, 7, 9 and 11.
- Keanu Pinder ($300,000), 32.5 a game in Round 4, Cairns doubles in Rounds 7, 8 and 10.
- Dash Daniels ($115,000), now $193,900, owned by half the game.
- Ben Gold ($69,000), now $97,100, 43.8% owned.
- Tanner Krebs ($150,300), now $164,300. All three double in Round 5 and are still making money.
- Zylan Cheatham ($339,500), now $300,300 and falling, 28.4 average, single in Round 5, 15.3% owned.
- Luke Travers ($292,900), 26.8 average, 12.9% owned. His 36.0 in Round 4 came across Melbourne's double, and they play once in Round 5.
- Who hasn't fired: Reuben Te Rangi ($97,100), 7.7 average, 12.6% owned. Sunday Dech ($69,000), 6.0 average and injured (hamstring, SuperCoach lists him back in Round 8), 21.4% owned. Hunter Goodrick ($69,000), 4.0 average and injured (knee), 19.1% owned.
- Injured and still owned: Parker Jackson-Cartwright ($405,200) (lower leg, 21.3% owned) will miss both NZ Breakers games in Round 5, at Sydney and Tasmania.
- Arnas Velicka ($277,000) (quad, 24.2% owned) is out for about eight weeks
- Will Magnay: 42.6 average, with games Friday and Sunday.
- Kendric Davis: 41.8 average, with games Wednesday and Saturday.
- Josh Bannan: 38 in Round 4, and Tasmania play twice.
- Sam Mennenga: 62 in Round 4, and NZ Breakers double.
