Sydney Kings star is back in the US for the NBL break and will return to Australia in July 2025

  • New Sydney Kings star Kendric Davis is unsure about the future of former teammate Montrezl Harrell
  • Kendric Davis wants to use the Sydney Kings as a springboard into the NBA
  • He will form a powerful backcourt with NBA champion Matthew Dellavedova, who signed with Kings as a free agent

New Sydney Kings backcourt star Kendric Davis doesn't know whether former Adelaide 36ers teammate and NBA Sixth Man of the Year Montrezl Harrell will return to the NBL in 2025-26.

"I don’t have the keys to the NBL organisations and I’m not in the front office so I have no clue, I’m as clueless as you guys," Davis told Code Sports Basketball.

"I don’t know. We shall see.”

Davis, who is spending the NBL off-season at home in Texas with his family, will return to Australia at the end of July.

Soon-to-be Sydney Kings assistant coach and basketball.com.au contributor Andrew Bogut said Sydney was the best place for Davis and his pursuit of making it to the NBA.

"Talent isn't what's preventing KD from playing in the NBA, it's just learning how to be a pro, the finer things, looking after your body, the mental side of the game - all of these factors become very, very important as you become a third, fourth, fifth, sixth year pro," Bogut said.

"He is still relatively fresh in the pro world.

"We had our eye on KD, especially once we signed (Matthew Dellavedova).

"We believe he will be able to play off the ball for stretches as well. Kind of mimic what United did with Delly, Shea Ili, CG43 and Ian Clark. We're really excited about it.

Dellavedova signed a three-year, high six figures deal with the Kings during the NBL free agency period.

"They have a great existing group of players already, a lot of different weapons defensively with the versatility," Dellavedova said.

"But also offensively with the athleticism, combined with the shooting.

"I’ve always had a great connection with Xavier (Cooks), so I’m excited about that part."

Dellavedova, who won and NBA championship alongside LeBron James in 2016, has made no secret of his desire to play for the Australian Boomers at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, in what would be his fifth Olympiad.
