Boomers clinch third straight FIBA Asia Cup, going 18-0 since debut in 2017 to dominate Asia.

Australia's third straight FIBA Asia Cup title, capping off an 18-0 run across three tournaments, has for now settled the question of who runs basketball in Asia.

The Boomers have found their groove since Oceania joined the competition in 2017, as the tournament also moved to a four-year cycle.

It's a shift that would have seemed unlikely not too long ago. The Asia Cup has a long history dating back to 1960 as the ABC Championship, with traditional powers like the Philippines, Japan, South Korea and China taking turns at the top.

China had a dominant run from 1975 to 2005, winning 14 of 16 titles during the biennial era, including two five-peats and a four-peat.

Australia's inclusion in 2017 has changed the dynamic considerably.

What was once a competitive field amongst Asian nations has become something of a procession, with the Boomers applying a level of consistency that's proven difficult to match.

The numbers tell the story: three tournaments, three titles, and not a single loss along the way. It's the kind of run that establishes a new pecking order, and right now, Australia sits firmly at the top of it.
