Townsville Fire, 3x3 gun Miela Sowah joins It's a Cole World
Featured
- Miela Sowah joined the Townsville Fire from the Perth Lynx in the WNBL offseason
- She won two Asia Cup gold medals in 2025, with the 3x3 team and the Opals
- Sowah attended Duke University from 2018-2022
At just 25-years-old, Miela Sowah has had an on-court career most would dream of.
The sharpshooting guard won a WNBL championship as a development player in 2018, went on to have a successful college career at the iconic Duke University, has travelled the world with the Australian 3x3 team and won a FIBA Asia Cup gold medal with the Opals earlier this year.
Having moved from the Perth Lynx to the Townsville Fire as one of the prized recruits in WNBL free agency, Sowah has played a significant role in the Fire's dominance to start the season and joined two-time WNBL champion Bec Cole to talk all about it on the latest edition of It's a Cole World.
For anyone who knows Sowah (nee Goodchild), knows success is nothing new to her having won major titles as far back as under-14s, being part of a junior team in Brisbane which claimed the Australian Club Championships.
At Duke, she became the quickest player to reach 100 makes from long-range and finished her career her career ranking eighth for career three-pointers made.
Sowah was also named to the All-WNBL Second Team last season and has continued that form under Shannon Seebohm in Townsville, where she ironically started her WNBL career.
Gold medals have become the norm for the Brisbane product in 2025 as well, having won a FIBA Asia Cup 3x3 gold and backed it up with the Opals, who won their first Asia Cup title earlier this year.
