What Happened
Townsville Fire asserted their dominance early, jumping to a 26-17 lead in the first quarter behind Miela Sowah's strong start. The Lynx responded in the second period, outscoring Townsville 26-18 to cut the deficit to just one point at halftime, 44-43.
The third quarter proved decisive as Townsville's defence stifled the Lynx attack, holding Perth to just seven points while adding 18 of their own. This defensive masterclass helped the Fire build a commanding 62-50 lead heading into the final period.
Lauren Cox was a defensive force for Townsville, recording an impressive seven blocks while collecting 12 rebounds. Her interior presence, combined with the Fire's balanced offensive attack, kept Perth at bay despite a late push that saw the Lynx outscore Townsville 20-17 in the final quarter.
Courtney Woods orchestrated the Townsville offence with nine assists while adding 12 points, while Alexandra Fowler contributed an efficient 16 points on 7-from-10 shooting.
For Perth, Brianna Turner delivered a solid all-round performance with 12 points, seven rebounds, five assists, three blocks and two steals.
The rebounding battle was a key factor, with Townsville dominating the glass 49-42. The Fire also shot more efficiently from beyond the arc, connecting on 11 three-pointers at 34 per cent compared to Perth's six triples at 28 per cent.
Despite Perth's 10 blocks matching Townsville's total, the Fire's superior ball movement (20 assists to 16) and sharpshooting proved decisive in securing the nine-point victory.
