WNBA guard Megan McConnell, sister of NBA star T.J. McConnell, signs with Bendigo Spirit for 2025-26

Defending WNBL champions Bendigo Spirit have signed WNBA guard Megan McConnell for the 2025-26 season.

McConnell, 23, is an elite playmaker and the Spirit’s first import signing of the 2025 off-season

“I’m so excited to experience a new world of basketball in the WNBL,” McConnell said.

"My time at Phoenix — although short — was really exciting and eye-opening.

"I can’t wait to get to Bendigo, meet the players and coaches, and contribute to the team in whatever way I can this season.”

McDonnell was undrafted in 2025 but signed a training contract with the Phoenix Mercury before the start of the WNBA season. She resigned with the Mercury at the end of June. McDonnell played just 13 minutes but had three points, three assists, a rebound and steal before leaving the game with a knee injury.

She was waived again on June 26 but has since fully rehabbed and returned to training, ensuring she will arrive in Bendigo at full strength.

McConnell is the younger sister of Indiana Pacers guard T.J. McConnell, who played a pivotal role in the Pacers’ run to the 2025 NBA Finals.

McConnell has forged her own standout career at Duquesne University where she became one of the program’s all-time greats, finishing her collegiate career as the NCAA Division I all-time leader with 660 assists, 370 steals, and four triple-doubles across 144 games.

She was named to the Atlantic 10 First Team in both 2024 and 2025 and remains one of only two players in Division I history to record multiple triple-doubles.

Dusquesne head coach Dan Burt described McConnell as “the best player [he has] ever coached,” praising her composure and playmaking ability.

Her arrival promises to add further depth and dynamism to the Spirit as they look to defend their WNBL25 championship.

Spirit general manager Dan Jackson: “As a club, we are absolutely thrilled to have Megan join us.

"Her youth and expert-level talent will be pivotal in building on last season’s success.

"She brings a competitive edge and an exciting brand of basketball that we believe will make her a wildcard addition in our championship defence.”

McConnell joins a roster that already includes Isobel Borlase, Kelsey Griffin, Olivia Pollerd, Kelsey Rees, Casey Samuels, Micah Simpson, Marianna Tolo and Abbey Wehrung for the 2025-26 WNBL season.
