'Show Me The Money': Gak signs with Wizards

Australian men's basketball stars Ben Simmons and Patty Mills are yet to sign with NBA teams for the 2025-26 season while 23-year-old Akoldah Gak signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Washington Wizards overnight.
Both Simmons, 29, and Mills, 36, are free agents.
Sydney-born Gak averaged 4.7 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.7 assists in 16.8 minutes per game across during the 2025 Summer League in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Chicago Bulls and Australian Boomers starting point guard Josh Giddey is a restricted free agent, which means the six-time NBA champions can choose to match any offer the 22-year-old is made by another franchise, meaning he would remain in the Windy City. He has been linked to a sign-and-trade deal with the Golden State Warriors.
Giddey made $8.3M in 2024-25 while the last year of his contract is worth $11.1M he is projected to sign his next contract for about four times that whether it’s with the Bulls or another franchise.
Australian centre Duop Reath will remain at the Portland Trail Blazers with his $2.2M USD salary fully guaranteed by the Rip City franchise.
Reath, 29, has averaged 7.1 points and three boards in 15 minutes in two seasons at Portland.
Australian Jock Landale has signed with the Memphis Grizzlies.
Landale, 29, had two years remaining on his Rockets contract: 2025-26 worth $8M; and $8M team option in 2026-27 but was waived before signing with the Memphis Grizzlies.
Australian Lachlan Olbrich has signed a two-way contract with the Chicago Bulls. Olbrich, selected with the 55th pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, signed his first NBA contract on Friday, July 4, 2025.
Matisse Thybulle opted into his $11.5M contract at the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday, June 25, 2025.

What is an Exhibit 10 deal
Exhibit 10 was introduced as part of the the NBA's 2017 Collective Bargaining Agreement. Exhibit 10 contracts are one-year deals worth the minimum salary. These contracts come without compensation protection but can include an optional bonus worth as little as $5K and – in 2025-26 – as much as $85,300 (USD).
