By the Numbers

  • Caitlin Clark (Indiana) starred with 20 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists and four blocks in 32 minutes.
  • Angel Reese (Chicago) scored 12 points and had 17 rebounds in 25 minutes.

What Happened

The Fever established control early, taking a 22-17 lead after the first quarter before extending it to 45-32 by halftime. Indiana continued to build momentum throughout the second half, outscoring Chicago 20-13 in the third quarter and pulling away with a dominant 28-13 fourth quarter to secure the 35-point victory.

A pivotal moment occurred with 4:38 remaining in the third quarter when Clark committed a hard foul on Reese, which was upgraded to a flagrant-1 after review. Following this incident, the Fever closed the quarter on a 9-0 run to take a commanding 65-45 lead, effectively putting the game out of reach.

Clark delivered a sensational performance in her season opener, recording the third triple-double of her career.

The second-year guard also added a career-high four blocks, showcasing her all-around impact. Aliyah Boston was equally impressive, contributing 19 points, 13 rebounds, and five blocks, while Natasha Howard added 15 points in her Fever debut.

The Fever's superior efficiency proved decisive, as they shot 46.7% from the field (35-from-75) compared to the Sky's dismal 29.1% (23-from-79). Indiana also dominated the defensive end, blocking 10 shots to Chicago's seven and forcing 17 Sky turnovers. The Fever's balanced attack saw four starters score in double figures, demonstrating their offensive depth.

With this victory, Indiana matched the second-largest winning margin in franchise history and made a statement to begin their season. For Chicago, despite Reese's strong rebounding effort with 17 boards (including seven offensive rebounds), their poor shooting and inability to contain Indiana's offense resulted in a disappointing season opener.

DeWanna Bonner's seven points moved her into third place on the WNBA's all-time scoring list with 7,489 points, passing Tina Thompson.
