Lach it in? Olbrich rises up NBA Draft board

Lachlan Olbrich of the Hawks warms up ahead of game five of the NBL Grand Final Series between Illawarra Hawks and Melbourne United at WIN Entertainment Centre, on March 23, 2025, in Wollongong, Australia.

NBL Champion Lachlan Olbrich has jumped into the second round in NBA mock drafts after the combine.

  • In the mock release the NBA Draft Combine, Olbrich was not listed
  • Olbrich is now placed in the 2nd Round of the mock, listed at 52
  • With Alex Condon withdrawing, four Australians are expected to be taken the 2nd Round

As we approach the crucial final stages of the 2025 NBA Draft process, four Australian prospects remain in contention to hear their names called on draft night, with Lachlan Olbrich's stock rising dramatically following an impressive showing at the NBA Draft Combine.

The draft landscape has shifted considerably in the past five weeks, with eighteen previously ranked prospects opting to withdraw from the 2025 class, significantly impacting the depth of available talent, particularly in the second round where our Australian contingent is projected to land, according to ESPN's latest mock draft.

The spotlight has intensified on Lachlan Olbrich, whose draft combine performance has catapulted him up draft boards across the league. His combination of size, skill and basketball IQ has caught the attention of several NBA front offices.

The past five weeks have brought significant movement in draft projections following key evaluation events including the G League Elite Camp, the NBA Draft Combine, and various pro days held in Chicago and Los Angeles. The NCAA withdrawal deadline has also reshaped the pool of available talent.

With eighteen prospects previously ranked in ESPN's Top 100 big board electing to withdraw their names from consideration, the depth of this draft class has been substantially impacted.

European league playoffs provides another crucial evaluation period for international prospects. Several high-profile players from Europe are currently competing in what represent the most significant contests of their careers thus far, giving NBA scouts additional opportunities to assess their capabilities under pressure.

The official NBA withdrawal deadline looms on June 15, primarily affecting international players who may choose to pull their names from consideration and aim for the 2026 draft instead. Previously ranked in the first round, West Australian prospect Alex Condon recently withdrew from the Draft, opting to return to reigning champion Florida Gators for another season in the NCAA.

Olbrich is one of five Australian men's basketball players who remain in the draft process:

  1. Alex Toohey (#36)
  2. Rocco Zikarsky (#41)
  3. Tyrese Proctor (#43)
  4. Lachlan Olbrich (52)
  5. Ben Henshall (#64)

Two foreign-born NBL Next Stars have also ben ranked: Malique Lewis (#67); and Izan Almansa (#69)

The NBA Draft is June 25 and 26, 2025 (US). Summer League starts on July 10.
