Tasmania Jewels Unveiled as WNBL’s Ninth Team
The Tasmania Jewels will join the WNBL in 2026, officially giving the league its ninth team.
The Women’s National Basketball League has officially introduced the Tasmania Jewels—the league’s ninth team .
Following the announcement of Tasmania as the home of the league’s next expansion team in August, today’s brand reveal marks a major moment for the sport.
Set to hit the court in the 2026/27 WNBL season, the Tasmania Jewels emerge with an identity inspired by Tasmania’s deep basketball roots and the beauty of its wilderness. The brand captures the authenticity that defines the state’s sporting DNA, while also finding a unique identity for the women’s team.
WNBL CEO Jennie Sager said the introduction of the Jewels showcases the league’s rising momentum and its commitment to creating more opportunities for athletes, fans, and communities nationwide.
“I’m so excited to welcome the Tassie Jewels to the WNBL. Tasmania’s love for the game runs deep, and now that passion has a new home on the national stage,” Sager said.
“This is the beginning of something truly special—not only for Tasmania, but for the continued rise of the women’s game across the country. With 10 additional roster spots opening up, this club is creating new pathways for young girls to chase their dreams and play basketball at the highest level.”

The arrival of the Jewels strengthens Tasmania’s rapidly expanding basketball landscape, joining the JackJumpers and unlocking new opportunities for athletes, coaches, officials and administrators across the state.
Grounded in Tasmania’s basketball legacy and inspired by its natural environment, the Jewels are ready to set a new benchmark for the sport’s future in the state.
Tasmania Jewels CEO Christine Finnegan said the new identity captures the spirit of the community and the aspirations of the program.
“Tasmania is the Jewel in the crown of Australia and now the Jewel in the crowd of the Queen Ant and a force to be reckoned with in the WNBL.
“We’re incredible proud to launch a brand that we believe represents the unique beauty of the state of Tasmania and the unbreakable resilience of our team and our community,” Finnegan said.
