'Bigger person always': Axed Bullet's response
The former NBL MVP posted on social media after being cut by Brisbane
- Jaylen Adams has been axed by the Brisbane Bullets after 13 games in NBL26
- Adams was the NBL MVP with the Sydney Kings in 2022
- He also won an NBL championship with the Kings in 2022
Former NBL MVP Jaylen Adams has responded on social media following the Brisbane Bullets' decision to part ways with the import point guard after 13 games in NBL26.
"Bigger person always," Adams wrote on X after the decision was announced today.
The decision was always coming from the Bullets due to Adams' poor performances throughout the season, averaging just 12.3 points per game, especially after Brisbane were demolished 113-84 at the hands of the New Zealand Breakers in their Ignite Cup clash at the Gold Coast on Wednesday night.
Adams, who won the NBL MVP award in 2022 as well as a championship with the Sydney Kings that same year, had just two points and two assists in 17 minutes against the Breakers.
Apart from a second half showing against Melbourne United at home, Adams failed to make an impact with the Bullets with 5.3 assists per game and shooting 41.4% from the field as well as 30% from the three-point line. Most of his 13 games were also spent coming off the bench.
But the biggest concern with Adams was his lack of contribution to the team environment at the Bullets with reports of several issues as early as the pre-season Blitz tournament in Canberra.
The 29-year-old looked disinterested majority of his time with Brisbane, much like he did at times with the Kings under Brian Goorjian last season.
However, the Bullets signed him to play under new coach Stu Lash, hoping Adams could rediscover his form from his first stint in the league. It was an experiment that failed and added to the burden players like Casey Prather had to carry, especially on the offensive end during the season.
Brisbane's decision means they are now on the lookout for two imports after Prather was ruled out for the rest of the season due to a knee injury suffered against the Breakers.
Nominated Replacement Player Lamar Patterson will step up for the Bullets in the meantime.
Adams' sacking means Brisbane will have three completely new imports from the start of the season after Javon Freeman-Liberty left the team earlier in the season.
“We are making quick, decisive moves to ensure our import spots are filled with elite talent as soon as possible,” Brisbane CEO Malcolm Watts said.
“Our club, our fans and our partners deserve a team that represents Brisbane with pride and professionalism. There will be two major announcements coming in the immediate future.”
The Bullets take on Melbourne United on Saturday night.
