Rocco's rookie G League season comes to an end

Aussie big man Rocco Zikarsky's impressive rookie G League season has come to an end after the Iowa Wolves were beaten in the first round of the playoffs.

Zikarsky had 14 points, going 4-from-7 from the field, as well as 10 rebounds and four blocks but the Wolves fell short, losing to the Stockton Kings 116-104 at the Adventist Health Arena.

While it was a disappointing end to his team's season, the Sunshine Coast product couldn't have performed better in his first season after averaging 15.8 points and 9.8 rebounds per game along with 2.7 blocks per contest.

Not bad for a 7'3" 19-year-old who was drafted with pick 45 in last year's NBA Draft.

Zikarsky shot the ball well early in the season but dropped off late to finish at 25.7% from the three-point line on 2.8 attempts per game.

The former Brisbane Bullets NBL Next Star had several big-game performances along the way, including 24 points in 25 minutes against the Grand Rapids Gold.

His performances in the G League led to him making his NBA debut with the Minnesota Timberwolves in late February against the Philadelphia 76ers, going on to play four games with the Wolves for some invaluable experience in his rookie season.

Former Cairns Taipans and current Capital City GoGo forward Akoldah Gak and South Bay Lakers assistant coach Liam Flynn are the only Aussies left in the G League playoffs after Jacob Chance (Austin Spurs) and Zikarsky (Iowa WOlves) were knocked out.

The Cleveland Charge, who have featured Aussies Luke Travers and Tyrese Proctor at times this season, were knocked out by Capital City.

Zikarsky will stay with the Timberwolves for the NBA Playoffs but won't be able to suit up as a two-way player.
