Saturday, October 18, 2025: Southside Melbourne Flyers v UC Captals
Whle it may seem obvious to have the season opener here, this one has extra juice.
Taking place at Melbourne's John Cain Arena, it has marquee game written all over it.
A new and improved (and renamed) Southside Melbourne Flyers taking on a re-tooled UC Capitals will see big names Cayla George, Jade Melbourne, Maddi Rocci, and the returning Jadya Clark all hit the floor infront of a huge crowd. Not to mention, fan favourite Sara Blicavs returns to the WNBL after a major back surgery.
We can't wait.
Sunday, October 19, 2025: Bendigo Spirit v Townsville Fire
The two teams who squared-off for the WNBL championship last season are expected to be competing for a title once again in season 2025-26.
The Fire, who sit at the top of Hayley Wildes' pre-season power rankings, will be out for revenge.
After the Bendigo Spirit, led by NBA star Sami Whitcomb, swept the Townsville Fire 2-0 in the grand final series both teams have made significant changes to their roster as one prepares for a tilt at back-to-back trophies and the other is on a quest to go one step further.
Whitcomb has departed but the Spirit have covered her loss with the addition of another Opal, in young gun Isobel Borlase, while the Fire have added sharpshooter Miela Sowah to their roster.
Fans won't have to wait long for the grand final rematch and to see how both teams stack up for the new season as the Spirit and Fire face-off in the opening round.
Sunday, October 19, 2025: Adelaide Lightning v Perth Lynx
Sorry Perth, but this one is all about the Lightning. It's a new era in Adelaide.
New ownership, stadium, logo, uniforms, head coach and a revamped roster, the sky could be the limit for this franchise.
Young gun Tayla Brazel will make her return after back-back ACL injuries, we just can't wait to see her out there again.
Friday, October 24, 2025: Sydney Flames v Southside Flyers
Australian Opals legend Cayla George helped revamp the Sydney Flames the past two seasons alongside her championship coach from the old Melbourne Boomers in Guy Molloy.
George assisted in Sydney's rebuild after some tough times from the previous regime at the Flames, creating an elite culture with the likes of Opals skipper Tess Madgen, who also followed Molloy to the Harbour City. The rebuild resulted in two improved seasons for Sydney, one where they just missed out on the top four and last season where they featured in the playoffs despite a mountain of injuries.
But on October 24, George returns to take on the Flames in a Flyers uniform after the two parties decided on a mutual release during the offseason despite the WNBA champion having a mutual option on the third year of her deal.
Tuesday, November 4, 2025: Perth Lynx v Townsville Fire
One of the biggest rivalries and fiery contests in the WNBL during season 2024-25 was when the Perth Lynx and Townsville Fire matched-up with each other.
It was physical, heated and poured into when the teams met in the semi-finals as the Fire took out the series 2-0 but it wasn't without challenges from Ryan Petrik's side.
Add to that rivalry the fact that one of the league's top guard, Miela Sowah, switched from the Lynx to Townsville in the offseason and this rivalry just went up another notch. Perth, who have added Breanna Turner until Chinese superstar Han Xu arrives, should be a force to be reckoned with at full-strength.
Tuesday, November 18, 2025 Adelaide Lightning v Bendigo Spirit
Isobel Borlase is a South Australian through and through.
Having played her juniors at the Forestville Eagles before starting her professional career with the Adelaide Lightning, Borlase became a young superstar in Adelaide, even going on to help the Opals claim a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics.
But Borlase made the tough decision to sign elsewhere in WNBL free agency, joining defending champions the Bendigo Spirit as Sami Whitcomb's replacement. And while the Lightning have retooled under new coach Kerryn Mitchell, Borlase's return to Adelaide will be one to watch.
