It's been another tough day for Aussies in the WNBA after the Washington Mystics waived All-NBL First Team member Alex Wilson.
Wilson was axed by the Mystics despite playing significant minutes off the bench for Washington in her rookie season at 32-years-old, where she averaged more than 14 minutes per game.
But as is the cutthroat nature of the WNBA, the franchise is no doubt looking to make changes considering their 3-4 start, which includes losing three of their past four games.
Wilson, who was identified by the Mystics staff as a mature rookie who was versatile and could play multiple positions, averaged three points, 1.8 rebounds and 0.8 assists in her time with Washington while shooting the ball at 26% from the field and 18% from the three-point line.
The decision from the Mystics leaves point guard Georgia Amoore as the only Aussie remaining on the team.
The former Perth Lynx star and boom Sydney Flames recruit's axing follows several Aussies being waived by franchises, which also include Townsville Fire's Alex Fowler, who was cut by the Ney York Liberty before being signed as a development player and then cut again to make room for Anneli Maley to sign with the franchise on the development contract.
Maley has had a whirlwind experience in the league this season, initially cut by the Liberty on the eve of the season, before being signed by the Phoenix Mercury and then released again, only to be brought back by New York.
Miela Sowah also had a similar experience after being waived by the Golden State Valkyries despite a promising preseason before the franchise brought her back on a development contract.
Like other Opals teammates, Wilson could see herself added to another franchise in the near future.
The point guard is set for a big WNBL27 season after signing a deal to return to the Sydney Flames.
