Joe Ingles intends to sign for the veteran minimum with Minnesota Timberwolves for 2025-26 season

Australian Boomers legend Joe Ingles is back for his 12th season in the NBA.

The 37-year-old "intends to sign" a $3.6M USD minimum veterans contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Ingles, who won a bronze medal with the Australian Boomers at the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo, played 19 games for the Wolves last season but was a locker room leader for the Western Conference contenders.

Key Details

Name: Joe Ingles
Age: 37
Team(s): Minnesota Timberwolves (current), Utah Jazz, Milwaukee Bucks, Orlando Magic
Position: Small forward / Shooting guard
Size: 6 ft 8 in (2.03 m)

Ingles has defied speculation he was set to retire this year, which drew a sharp rebuke from his wife Renae.

Ingles has played 723 games in his 11-year career, mostly with the Utah Jazz. The news of his new contract comes as he and his family are holidaying in Hilton Head, South Carolina.

The Ingles' were part of the most inspiring and heartwarming moments of the 2024-25 season when their son was able to watch dad Joe play for the first time.

"Last night, Coach Chris Finch of the Timberwolves made a heartfelt gesture by starting my husband Joe for the first time since 2022, allowing our autistic son to hear his dad’s name called out," Renae wrote on Instagram.

"This moment is one our family will cherish forever. Words can’t fully express our gratitude for such kindness.

"Those minutes on the court meant so much more than just a basketball game. I’m incredibly proud of Jacob for all his hard work that brought him to the stands, but my heart swells with pride for Joe. It’s a testament to his character, and to the amazing people in this organisation who recognise him and would do something like this for him. Just wow. Thank-you, Timberwolves!"

The Timberwolves now have two Australians on their roster after drafting 18-year-old Brisbane Bullets centre Rocco Zikarsky with the 45th pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.

Australia's connection with the Timberwolves runs deep. Minnesota will forever be part of Australian basketball history after they drafted Western Australian Luc Longley with the 7th pick in the 1991 Draft.
