New Australian Bryce Cotton said his citizenship "race is finally won" and basketball fans want him to play for the Boomers more than he does.
The 33-year-old Cotton, who has just been granted Australian citizenship, told Code Sports Basketball: “To even be talking about the fact I’m an Australian citizenship still sounds crazy to say, but the race is finally won.
“That is what excites me a lot, but as far as the Boomers stuff that doesn’t cross my mind.
"For me it is thrill of just being a citizen and then from an NBL standpoint the opportunity to play as a local.
“And what that means for me individually and what it means for any team that I play for and obviously playing for the 36ers.
“I think people want that (me to play for the Boomers) more than I do.”

The five-time NBL MVP left Perth at the end of NBL25 to explore other opportunities and that path led to the Adelaide 36ers in a free agency signing that stunned Australian basketball fans.
“Everything lined up,” Cotton revealed when he landed in Adelaide in late August.
“It made sense for me personally, it made sense for my family, and we wanted to make that move after weighing out all the pros and cons, obviously before the season started.”
Cotton and 36ers teammate Dejan Vasiljevic combined for 46 points in their first outing together against Panathinaikos BC Aktor in a 106–89 loss in Sydney on Sunday.
The 36ers led 47–39 at half-time thanks to Vasiljevic catching fire on his old home floor, while Cotton warmed into his Adelaide debut to finish with 24 points and nine assists. Captain Vasiljevic added 22 points on 6/9 three-point shooting.
Adelaide plays its first game of NBL26 on Sunday, September 28, 2025 against the Brisbane Bullets in Adelaide.
